Meet the Speakers

Dr Haskelson


Marc Haskelson is the President and CEO of Compliancy Group. He has over 25 years of sales, marketing, compliance and operational leadership experience, and has held executive positions at Hearst Publications, Experian, and AT&T. He is an innovator who develops new products and solutions to address the challenges of the small and midsize market. Haskelson is the Chair of the CompTIA Business Applications Advisory Council and is a Visionary Level Contributor to the American Optometric Association Political Action Committee. He focuses his knowledge of compliance, technology, security, customer care, and payment processing on improving market inefficiencies. Compliancy Group prides itself on education and advocacy in the security, health care IT, and compliance industries. 

Dr Lighthizer


Dr. Nathan Lighthizer is a 2009 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry. Upon graduation, he completed a residency in Family Practice Optometry with an emphasis in Ocular Disease through Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. Dr. Lighthizer has since joined the faculty at the Oklahoma College of Optometry and serves as the Chief of Specialty Care Clinics and the Chief of Electrodiagnostics Clinic. He lectures nationally on numerous topics, most notably on advanced ophthalmic procedures, electrodiagnostics, and ocular disease.

Dr Madonna


Dr. Richard J. Madonna is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Clinical Education and Director of the Office of Continuing Professional Education at the SUNY College of Optometry. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics relating to ocular disease, ophthalmic imaging, and therapeutic drugs.  He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Optometric Glaucoma Society. He is a recent winner of the SUNY College of Optometry Alumnus of the Year and New York State Optometric Association Optometrist of the Year awards.

Dr. Mena


Dr. Vittorio Mena, Jr. is a 2014 graduate of Salus University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He joined Family Care Vision in Rutherford, NJ where he served as an Associate Optometrist before being  named Sports Vision Director of Optical Academy/Outlet in 2016. Dr. Mena is a co-clinical director of the Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program as well as an active member of the NJSOP and the AOA.

Dr Rodriguez


Dr. Rodolfo Rodriguez received his Doctorate from the State University of New York – State College of Optometry in 1982. He is a past president of the NJSOP and frequently provides continuing education to colleagues in the areas of Ocular Surface Diseases, Glaucoma, Dry Eye Disease, Ocular Allergy, Viral Eye Diseases, Oral Medications as well as new medications. As a speaker for several pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Rodriguez lectures to colleagues providing important updates on new medications.

Dr. Samantha Slotnick found her way to the specialty of Behavioral Optometry via personal experience.  As a child, she struggled with tracking problems and was diagnosed with a “lazy eye.”  Real help didn’t come for her until after college, when she received her first pair of bifocal glasses. Dr. Slotnick pursued optometry as a career and has continued to explore the visual process as an active participant in her own visual rehabilitation. By working through her own visual challenges, she learned firsthand that vision therapy is a whole-person experience.  Not only did her vision change, but also her outlook!  

Dr Sorkin


Dr. Steven Sorkin has received multiple clinical honors and has participated in many contact lens related studies. He lectures extensively on contact lenses, dry eyes, and allergies and has a special interest in difficult to fit contact lens patients, such as those with keratoconus or post-surgical cases. Dr. Sorkin frequently lectures on ocular allergy, ocular therapeutics, corneal disease and contact lenses. He was recently accepted as a Fellow in the Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS) - an international association for vision care professionals who develop and/ or fit scleral contact lenses.

Mr. Theodore Spera is the Technical Field Manager for Luxottica Ray-Ban Lenses with past experience with Bausch & Lomb, Unilens, Shamir Insight, Carl Zeiss Vision, Cooper Vision, and Essilor. He is a highly accomplished and awarded sales professional who looks forward to sharing his knowledge of the optical retail landscape.



Dr. Walter Whitley is the director of optometric services at Virginia Eye Consultants (VEC)  He is a 2002 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry and completed a residency in ocular disease, refractive and ocular surgery at Eye Care Associates of Nevada.
