NJ Mandatory Continuing Education for Optometrists

Stay up to date with the New Jersey Board of Optometrists (NJSBO) mandatory, continuing education requirements, including the mandatory one credit in educational programs or topics that concern the prescription of hydrocodone, or the prescription of opioid drugs in general, including responsible prescribing practices, the alternatives to the use of opioids for the management and treatment of pain, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion (Subchapter 7, page 41)
 

NJSOP CE Event Registration Refund Policy

 
In the event a NJSOP continuing education event attendee wishes to rescind their event registration, refunds may be requested through email or by mail to NJSOP. Refund requests received at least 30 days or more before the event will receive a full refund. Requests made 14-29 days before the event will receive a 50% refund. Refunds will not be issued within 14 days of the event. However, registered attendees who experience an extenuating circumstance that prevents them from attending the event can request refund consideration via email or by mail. Refunds will be provided in the manner in which the registered attendee paid.

As AMD becomes more prevalent, it is more important to be up to date with diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Trends in diagnostic technologies as well as advances in treatments will be discussed in the rapid fire course going from A to Z.

This course will examine various categories of oral pharmaceuticals including antibacterials, antivirals, anti-inflammatories, opioids, and mineralocorticoid antagonists and their utilization in treatment and management of ophthalmic disease.

This course will discuss the diagnosis and management of conditions that involve posterior uveitis.Through thought-provoking cases, it will outline what is required for accurate diagnosis and touch on new developments in treatment.

2:25 PM – 4:15 PM  Retina Review & Re-New: Highlights for the Primary Eye Care Provider
Speaker: Joy Harewood, OD, FAAO, Dipl ABO

The course will discuss current developments in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of central serious chorioretinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and common hereditary retinal diseases. Using the most recent literature and cases, it will present an overview of what you need to know to provide your patients with the highest standard of retinal care.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CE CREDIT:
Courses presented at this event will be New Jersey State Board of Optometrists (NJSBO) and are non-COPE courses. Courses will be accepted for CE credit in NJ, NY, and PA. If you are licensed in any other state, please check with that state's Optometry Board to inquire if these courses will be accepted.

 


Meet the Speakers

New Meet the Speakers Summer CE

Jeffry Gerson, OD, FAAO
Dr. Gerson graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1997, after which he completed a VA residency concentrating in low vision and ocular disease. He has worked in several different practice settings, including a retina referral practice where he participated in several large clinical trials. Currently, Dr. Gerson is in private practice where he collaborates with ODs and MDs. He sees primary care patients with an emphasis on retinal care. He still participates in clinical trials and utilizes many different diagnostic modalities. Dr. Gerson is a frequent lecturer in the U.S. and abroad and writes regularly for optometric publications.

Alissa Coyne, OD, MS, FAAO, FASOS
Dr. Coyne graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in biobehavioral health. She earned her doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University and completed a primary care residency at The Eye Institute. Dr. Coyne completed a master's degree in pharmacology and toxicology at Michigan State University. She is an associate professor at Salus University teaching ocular pharmacology and ophthalmic lasers and minor surgical procedures. Dr. Coyne has special interests in ocular disease, emergency eye care, and ocular pharmacology. She has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Coyne is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the American Society of Optometric Surgeons.

Joy Harewood, OD, FAAO, Dipl ABO
Dr. Harewood is the Chief Diversity Officer at State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry, where she also holds the title of Associate Clinical Professor. She is a graduate of Berkeley Optometry and completed a residency in ocular disease at SUNY College of Optometry. Dr. Harewood’s research interests include ocular manifestations of systemic disease and access to eye care. She was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Task Force on Disparities in Eye Care, which was recently recognized with the AAO Secretariat Award. Dr. Harewood lectures nationally and internationally on a wide range of topics including ocular disease and access to eye care.
